Just wondering if someone can tell me exactly where at the Little Red School House Nature Center (Western Spring, IL) is the dark site? I've been to the Nature Center several times during daylight hours and never really saw a "great" place to observe. I also wonder if I can go there at night on a non-organized observing session or is it by "appointment" only. Thanks.

Gee,

I really don't know about the situation there, considering it's Cook County Forest preserve property, and preserve property closes at sundown. Your SWOAG group seems to utilize the area, or so the site says.

I did not know that the LRSH had an astronomical site.

I now that SWOAG uses it, but I also thought that the CAS did too. I went out one cold night in January for a public viewing session (perfect night but COLD) and alas, everything was buttoned up tight. I believe that the session occurred but I'm convinced that I was at the wrong part of the area. I'll look into it more and post my findings here. Joe I spoke with Alan who was interested in possibly getting out there this weekend. You in?

Alas, we were not graced to view the Lunar/Mercury conjunction of yesterday, but it's ok.

According to the Chicago Clear Sky forecast, Sunday's skies will be clear...and sunset Occurs at 5:55 p.m. I like to set up prior to sunset, so heres the plan:

I will be at the Adler area just outside the main bulding at my usual spot, right next to the Corpernicus Statue at 5:00 pm. You can't miss me, as you will spot the scope and my "68 Chevelle.

We can catch elusive Mercury, the crescent Moon, Saturn and other brighter objects. The light where I set up is quite obtrusive, but for the evening's session, and considering the cold temps...it will be just fine. And we just might make some new friends and members for the CAF...

I will anticipate seeing both yours and Alan's fine sophisticated equipment for the first time. I haven't allowed my scope to breathe much since the very early days of winter...I hope its ok!...
