Man's delicate ego shows it's ugly face in the presence of a possible threat to his intelligence, ability, strength and logic - be it man or machine. It keeps the human race chugging along at a snails pace. Always afraid to let go of archaic technology in exchange for new... for many reasons not including economic, social standing and outright monopoly.
Tesla, a genius ahead of his time figured out how to produce free energy for the masses, and without wires, but the imposing power companies of the time stomped on him hard, bankrupt and crushed him.
This ignoramus mentality is certainly based in fear and loss of control. We all like our area of influence and the comfort that it brings. Like the Amateur Astronomer who builds a wall around him/her by exhibiting an aggresive attitude. Attempting to Keep the threat away and hides his weaknesses. So primitive, but natural.
Artificial Intelligence is a perceived threat to man. I am surprised we are not still using punch cards and the cotton-gin. Although most of us are on Windows Operating Systems.
Several people remarked that it was "creepy" to talk to a machine that sounded so human. It seems like some people felt a need to trip up the bot, or defeat it in some way.
