Ok Guys,

I have kept my mouth shut on this but you know there are times you just have to say something. As a member here I want to say to Joe this is a nice site and full of good information.

Now for my complaint:

Some members here are thinking that they can just post BS to get their names on the boards. I would like to say we are all adults here and should act like it. We are here because we like Astronomy and could possibly learn from each other. As I was reading the posts from the Star Party the other night we all had a good time and did learn from each other. I have told a few people myself if I could help them some more I would be happy to. I am happy to help guide or to aide another fellow Astronomer in their quest to better their understanding in this wonderful hobby. Yes I am taking an Astronomy Course that will give me a Diploma in Astronomy and doing this outragious research program with the Asteroids but that is my goal for my hobby. I dont force it on anyone or tell them they have to look at this. I am happy Al was thrilled to see Vesta. If he didnt want to try to find it I would not have said another word about it.

Now for the members that seem they must be involved in all conversations and the what not. Some of us have been here awhile and have gotten to know each other. We have a understanding of who we are and what we can get away with without hurting the others persons feelings. Lord knows I get picked on enough, and yes I to pick on other people. (Just ask Joe)

So I will say this in closing. We are adults here so lets all act like it. Be respectful of each other, and god for bid be nice on the boards. Joe if you want to delete this thats ok. You wont hurt my feelings at all. This is just my ranting and raving this morning. To those who know me well enough and this affends you I am sorry. You know how I am. I am not writing this to hurt anyones feelings just needed to get this off my chest. Now that I have said this I feel better. So lets all have fun and enjoy this wonderful Hobby we all seem to enjoy.

[Chicago Astronomer - Astro Joe]

It's more of personal insecurity than a political effort. In politics, one attempts to maneuver and take for personal gain. There are no trinkets or prestige to take from us, only friendship and knowledge that we choose to freely give and the participation in a winning team.

When one attempts to cover personal insecurity by negative and obnoxious behavior, then we have a problem to address. What that will get you here is animosity and dislike, and if the postings become insulting and threatening... all it will get you is banned. Hardly a logical reason to participate and not at all beneficial to anyone.

I receive great emails and personal uplifting messages regarding the newsletter, the forum, it's content and assistance gained. I like to give a status report in the Chicago Astronomer Newsletter of the sites current content and numbers. Some have felt that this is braggadocios and pompous, I don't think so. When the media recognizes the Chicago Astronomer, most people are happy for me and the site, but I have received a very very small handful of negative notes on our attention. Their sour disposition and bitter attitude oozes not only in their letters, but as individuals as well. How odd that we don't see them sought after as media references sources...and I don't think that we will either any time soon. I have written about these sad people in the "Astronomer Attitudes" thread some time ago.

I don't mind the occasional tease as Becky mentions, (I still haven't completed the lunar 100!!), and any reasonable and developed person shouldn't either. And I kid about pushing Sarwat into the lake for being so knowledgeable in astronomy..(Competition you know), but he knows I'm not serious. And now that I know he owns a Coronado scope, I will hold his head under.

I attempt to diffuse or confront a potential problem away from public eyes. But sometimes it creeps out of the private and into the mass arena. It then becomes a membership issue and has the potential to cont animate and polarize the group. Not why we are here.

This board "Astronomer's Soap Box", is the place to rant and rave about things that bother you, regarding this forum, Nasa, something in astronomy or even me. If directed at me, it will only help to make me a better person and create a better site. I don't delete post, just move them to the proper place.

So, yes....I do expect proper and civilized behavior from my members. For the other individuals who cannot accept this simple expectation...their are plenty of other astronomical forums out there that may tolerate the ignorant.

But, Not here.
