I used to think that it was no big deal that I couldn't afford better equipment because my pictures always came out really awesome. But the more and more pictures that my cousin makes, i think maybe I'll start being jealous again. Here are some fantastic shots of Jupiter and Saturn taken with his 8" Celestron S/C. He cheats like everybody else and uses Registax to make the pictures look so good. Whatever happened to the good old days of point and shoot, and if the picture came out bad, you said oh well and took some more? I think using my digital camera is bad enough, but these guys with their LPI's and DSI's are getting out of hand. Anyhow, enjoy the pics. I keep telling him to join the site, but he's a little on the loner side.

Those are indeed nice shots of the planets. I especially like the last one, as the raster lines look almost like a tv feed of a spacecraft entering Saturn's orbit. And the GRS on Jupiter really pops out. I hear that the GRS is fading from when it was first observed. Maybe the great Jovian hurricane is finally dying down.

I guess everyone tries to squeeze out the best image they can, even if it's Registax and post production touch-ups...and that's ok. But I remember taking shots as a kid with my 35mm and content with the results.

Yeah, simple times. When we didn't have internet. No dvd. No gas guzzling suv's. What ever did we do without these?

Just like all the new equipment for astronomy. Every time someone comes up with another million dollar idea, more and more of the tried and true ways fall aside. But, I'm not complaining. Without my digital camera I wouldn't be taking any pictures at all. I couldn't spend all that time to develop film.

But it is nice to see some awesome pictures from an average schmoe who's just like the rest of us
