Better seeing last night, and Jupiter's red spot was in view. Very apparent even in the preview. Wish the eyepiece view was this good.

Remarkable that a equitorial band has dissapated, allowing the GRS to become more prominant. I haven't seen much reports about this, if the GRS is affecting the band or what is going on.

Well, I haven't been as up and current on Jupiter as I should have been. During an earlier visual observation this year, I had chocked up to really bad seeing the complete absence of the SEB but when I made the images (including one I hadn't shared, done on one of my alt-az scopes [about 10 seconds] and seeing was so bad that only one belt was visible and nothing else), it was apparent this might be something on Jupiter itself.

A great amateur imager's site jupiter.cstoneind.com/ is a photographic blog of the year's observations. It would seem that other disturbances/storms are to blame for the SEB's dissolution. The images he took are far better than mine, which can only compare to his worst on bad seeing.
