The Chicago Astronomer at Dvorak Park for "Earth Day" Solar Observations

This was our 2nd year at the Dvorak Park recognition of "Earth Day", connecting the curious with the Sun with solar telescopes and astro chat...including the Total Solar Eclipse event of the past week. A great many kids, teens & adults stopped by our station and had their first time peeks at the Sun and had the opportunity to chat with Astronomers...

Here, we use a "Spectrograph" to demonstrate the light frequencies of the Sun's light...




Fellow Astronomer David joined us with his 60mm Coronado and shared views of Prominences and other solar artifacts....




The table top Dob is always a hit with the kids...and even with older sky lovers...





         
  


I had the trusty 152mm Refractor with a full aperture Baader Solar Filter which produced excellent views of the solar disk and sunspots...and riding on top was my own 60mm Coronado solar scope. I had intended to project the image onto a monitor, but it was just to fidgety and went with straight thru viewing...

Our three hours went by much too fast and time to pack up, satisfied on a successful solar session at Dvorak...
