Early morning Moon and Venus Conjunction event

If you are an early riser, check out this nice pairing of the early pre-dawn Crescent Moon and the planet Venus in our Eastern skies Thursday morning.  I will set my clock early to catch this and since I do not have an easy eastern vista from the Chicago Astronomer Observatory site, I will have to go on my garage roof...then, go back to bed.  The things we do for urban astronomy!   

Sunrise is at 6:32 am, so start your watch anytime after 4:00 am till dawn and you will see these celestial bodies less than 1/2 of a degree apart, making a very cool opportunity to photograph this.   Grab a pair of binoculars and small telescopes will be great to view it.

Clear skies bring on a Lunar/Venus Conjunction
4:30 am

Really did not sleep in anticipation of this pairing of celestial orbs, but I did have to set-u gear on my garage roof to obtain a Eastern vista. This is a low-powered event, with smaller telescopes/optics. I utilized an Orion 90mm Refractor scope that just barely squeezed the two into the Field of View. I also use a small 500mm iOptron Refractor scope for a more comfortable FOV.

The clouds were just leaving the Chicago area, with just a scattering of trail clouds, making for a nice framing...

  

I spent about 90 minutes enjoying the view and imaging....a productive Thursday morning well spent...even if the skies were just a bit hazy.
