That is quite a true maxim...

Knowledge has been discovered, lost and discovered again and again. The ancients knew of accurate scientific content, and then it was forgotten. We humans tend to downplay anti-establishment breakthroughs and thinking, as it shakes up contemporary hierarchy. Carvings of the Sumerians, Aztecs, Celts and others show the solar system as a helio-centric model, thousands of years before Galileo first proposed it. But as the mainstream church needed to retain control over the masses, it certainly could not be acknowledged that the God-created Earth was not the center of the God's universe. And therefore the rediscovery of real science is hindered until the time is right. We are our worst enemy and probably considered the bastards of the Universe by other space faring civilizations.

There will be great things to uncover out there and within ourselves, but there is comfort in seeing things that way we want to see them, and not in the way they actually are. An example is Nicolas Telsa. Telsa did great things with electricity and magnitism, but the power companies shut him down and broke him before he died a pauper. He developed a simple procedure to provide free electricty for all by sending it "Thru the air", much like radio waves, but there was no profit in it and would crush the power mongols.

The ancients knew much, we should pay more attention to them.
