Let me be the first to congratulate the Adler on getting an article in Astronomy Magazine. It was quite interesting to find out that the Adler had such a grand collection of astronomy related items.

It's too bad we couldn't see Joe and the "Mighty Nikon" in the pages. It would have made the article perfect.

The Adler certainly has many interesting artifacts, including a whole library of astronomical documents. The curator there runs it with like a maximum security facility, and would be fulfilling going thru it all.

There is a grandiose clock in the private area of the Adler that contains mercury in it's weight system. Huge and historical. Perhaps I'll post some pics of it here soon.

The Adler should place out much more of the objects than it does presently. I remember as a kid marveling at the instruments of antiquity, but what's out there now is just a small percentage of the collection. The photos alone are a hoot.

At the Adler, we also have two replicas of Galileo's telescope that we use for public education. Crafted in the same dimensions, the tube is rather long and eye relief/exit pupil poor. But it is what Galileo built and used to observe the heavens...including the satellites of Jupiter. Quite cool.

Of course the tripod is of modern design, but the crafters, (shown), took precise measurements of the actual telescope in Italy, and built their own. Impressive.

Yes, the inclusion of the "Classic Mighty Nikon" would have been a nice addition. " Astronomer not included."
