For the next few days, the 7th magnitude asteroid Ceres will be within a degree or so of the 1.7 magnitude star Alnath in Taurus the Bull. From many areas, a 7th magnitude object can be seen in 7x35 binoculars or larger, and certainly is within the grasp of most small telescopes from nearly anywhere. Alnath is bright enough to be seen even in the city, so this is a chance to find and watch this asteroid move over the course of several nights... assuming it stays clear after our - ahem... "snow event" (that was no snowstorm!).
