Chicago Astronomer and Chicago Park District joint Star Party

The next joint star party of the Chicago Astronomer and the Chicago Park District will be on Thursday the 1st of November at Margate Park - 4921 N. Marine Drive - between Lawrance and Foster avenues.

We will set-up telescopes just south of the Margate Parking lot - with a nice southern exposure of the ecliptic. Look for the red safety lights of our observation site - can't miss us.

-With the imposing Hurricane Sandy teasing us, waves along Lake Shore Drive were a danger...and we cancelled this star party - originally scheduled for the 30th of October.

Weather looks good and temps in the 50's....and the Moon and Jupiter will rise about 8:30 pm for some great lunar and planetary viewing for our park guests.

Although it's kinda cloudy, we are still going to set-up scopes.

The high clouds are due to slide away...hopefully so.

UPDATE:

The Margate Star Party was scrubbed.

Upon arriving on-scene, the cloud cover was mostly overcast and I called it "cancelled."

We will reschedule this event...but at another park - perhaps Horner.

Hey Joe, I did on Wednesday night, Jupiter and at least 3 moons for 5 minutes with my quick Meade 70mm and 6.5mm EP (a bit strectched) but it felt great. I haven't observe since way back in June.

No Joe, did not have my camera with me and it was too cold for that if I did because I was not dress for it. I was not dress to walk a block that evening.
