If the skies remain clear I would like to attempt some imaging Friday or Saturday evening. What would be some easy intermediate objects type objects to image? Ill be using an unmodified canon XSI with filters and the sbc-2000 camera with reducer, light pollution and UV/IR cut filters in place.

I thought about imaging Pluto friday and saturday night but I think I'll only have time for one evening. I'll most likely be in the Tinley Park area unless darker skies are available elsewhere.

I'll also be testing out the Hubble Optics 5 star collimation tool on the C8 this week in preparation for the weekend. If anyone would like to try it out you are more than welcome to have at it.

Anyone else planning on taking in some observing time or want to make it a mini star party?

Im going to try to get some imaging of M63 from the driveway tonight. It will be fairly high around 9:45pm so hopefully I can get some good contrast. i will be using the scb-2000 on the C8 @ F/5 with baader ir/uv cut and orion skyglow imaging filter. I will try to get about 1500 frames and equal darks. im not sure about flats as I dont have anything setup yet. Ill post whatever mess I can get later. =)

I took some really great avi's with the video camera last night. The filters I am using withthe camera work great! I even took dark avi's for stacking. Is anyone here familiar with processing with Registax? I've been trying all morning and I cant seem to incorporate the darks into the mix.

I'm thinking of going to Conway Friday, and specifically trying to learn how to use the telescope and image in the Hunter Astrophoto Lab. It doesn't look like there will be an AP class offered again this year, so I will try to learn to use it myself.

Or maybe I'll just visually observe Friday, and go out late Saturday to learn the AP scope.

Hi Rich, I have just read the above so don't know if your situation has changed or whether you have gotten answers or not. However, you shouldn't need dark frames when stacking frames from a video clip. Dark frame is the noise copy and is use to mask out (match) what to subtract from your light frame but the short exposures of video frames should not have significant amount of noise.

Registax is not easy to use but it's free. Read up on Maxim dl to see if you'd like to purchase a copy. $$$ : )

Tomlee what I was able to utilize the darks for was to subtract the hot pixels in some of the images. In the end Im not really happy with the results thus far. Id like to get out to some darker skies to get away from the skyglow that becomes amplified with the frame stacking. Even with an orion skyglow imaging filter the results remain the same.
