Who will be the first to spot Venus by naked eye before sunrise? Following its magnificent display in the western sky as the springtime Evening Star which culminated in the June 5th transit, Venus will soon be moving into the predawn eastern sky as the brilliant Morning Star.

Although my initial solicitation was for naked eye reports, telescopic photos of an extremely thin crescent Venus would be welcome additions to this thread.

Got Jupiter this morning, but no Venus.

Got it, about 4:55 AM CDST this morning. It was too faint for my camera to pick up. I'll get telescopic pictures this weekend, weather permitting.

I followed the Moon down to Jupiter, and used that line to guess where Venus should have been. It was just barely shining through the haze.

(She was brighter than the last time I saw her, but not by much).

Congratulations to Paulie! You are the man in the Venus spotting department. I thought you might be the first to spot her as the Morning Star. And sure enough, you were. That is unless it was actually Aldebaran.

Over the coming days Venus will pop higher and shine brighter in the predawn sky. That’s when 9-1-1 operators will become inundated with UFO reports.

I've been trying to document Venus's (and Jupiter, too) rise as a morning planet. Sooner or later I'll get my pics together to post.

If you're betting though, place your money on later, rather than sooner.

But I will get to it.

Am on Harbor Island, South Carolina. Woke up super early this morning for some reason.

"I'll go downstairs and read where I won't bother anybody."
"I should at least peek at Jupiter and Venus."
"I should at least grab the binoculars. They're set up."
"I should just grab my travel scope. It's already set up. Why have a dob if you're not gonna use it?"
