Anyone else doing the Shamrock Shuffle this year too?

If by "Shamrock Shuffle" you mean running some absurd distance with nothing about to maul my hide if I instead just stand there, the answer is no.

The running of the bulls in Pamplona I get. Marathons, mini-marathons, and 5K runs I do not get.

Wuss. The Shuffle is only 5 miles, I'm currently doing 5 miles before work everyday. I've also done a couple marathons.

I have bad knees, a car, and no warrants. I have no good to reason to run under almost any circumstance, especially for 5 miles.

Well, to be honest I just started running over the summer so I am still pretty new at it all. Now that I've set the stage properly, a target time of 52 min will make more sense. To date I have only run in a 5k race over Thanksgiving, so this will be my second race. Seems a cool race to do with the size of it and all. How about you, what start group are you in?

Last race I did was the Edison Park Turkey Trot, 5k. This race I'm in starting corral B and am shooting for 35 minutes, although I've got quite a bit more training to do before I'll be able to get there. Winter kills my pace time, we'll see...

Let me know if I can help at all. I was a marathon trainer for CARA for a while, been running ever since I left college (can't really wrestle beyond college, switched to running and enjoy it.)

How was your run today? I'll say this, the weather could not have been more perfect for the race. I ended up with a slower time than I hoped, but I enjoyed it.

Leading up to the race during my prep, I started having a pain in my right hip that started about a month ago. I immediately took a couple runs off to let it heal. My shoes had between 400-500 miles on them, so I thought this new pain might be my shoes wearing down. I picked up some new shoes, and ran a few times, and my hip pain seemed very slight and almost gone. However after a couple of weeks on the new shoes it started coming back after my long runs. I ended up having to take this whole last week off so I would even be able to run, so I was not in the shape I had hoped. But that is all part of it!

My run was a little comical today. All of my technology failed, teaching me a lesson for races. I'm a gadget nut, so I run with a Polar watch, heart rate monitor, and GPS. A great tool to log and track my runs. I also run with my iPhone for music, and use the Nike+ app which also tracks the run (a bit of an overkill with the Polar gear already in use). From the start of the race my hr monitor was not working, I suspect because the sensors had dried out from the wait. After I crossed the start line and started my Nike+ app, my music wasn't playing. Took me about 1/4 mile to get that working. I'm sure I looked like a goof trying to fix it on my arm while trying to run. So finally I am focused on my pace and race, then I realize my gps is not tracking well through downtown so all my distances and pace indicators are off.

Lesson learned, I ended up only using the timer on my watch and mile markers. I think I also would have enjoyed no music with the crowds around the course. Next time I will do exactly that.

I didn't have any gadgets with me, I've learned they're too distracting from the fun of the race. (Sounds like you're learning that too.) I was just in shorts, t-shirt, shoes.

My finish was 35 minutes 46 seconds

I am ready for another race. After posting the time I did, I know I am capable of better which I want to prove in an official time somewhere. However I have to admit yesterday my hip was really sore from the run, so I am going to have to rest it again this week, then hopefully try a small run this weekend if it feels like it is ready.

My next race I will probably target a 5k. My summer race goals are to break a 30 min 5k, and start running in 10k races.

Don't hurt yourself. I kicked out another 5 miles this morning, wow am I sore now...

I'm looking for weekday night races, let me know if you find any. I'm usually up in Wisconsin camping all the weekends of summer, I did find a couple really small town 5K's that should be fun to try out there this summer though.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to shoot for the Chocolate again in the fall too

Not sure where you normally run, but around here, joggers run along busy roads, earbuds in.

Earlier this month we had a correctional officer killed in a hit and run while jogging near the jail.

I don't know if she was listening to music at the time, but it seems reckless for joggers and bicyclists to wear earbuds while they're sharing the road with motorists. I know the exercise is an escape from the pressures of life, but I don't get depriving oneself of the vital sense of hearing what is going on around oneself.

I think I found my next race, am going to do another 5 miler too. It is on May 6, which gives me enough time to get into shape for it. I've been light runs for the last week and my hip is doing much, much better. I haven't logged anything longer than a 5k since the race, but I am going to start adding in long runs again this weekend.

Plus this one has a cool name. Cinco de Miler!
