When I was at the Arlington Heights Library astronomy night someone asked me a question that I couldn't answer, not that it hard to do, and I haven't been able to find the answer since then so I thought I would pass it on to the CA crew.
She had asked to see the moon, so pointed the scope at the moon and she looked and seem very fascinated with the view.
She then asked me how close to the moon were the astronauts when their view of the moon matched what she saw in my scope.
I didn't know the answer but I know it should be possible to calculate the answer. At the time I was using my 25mm eyepiece which gives my scope a magnification of 26x. I know that means that the moon appears 26 times larger, but how does that relate to the apparent distance?
