Hot tubs & telescopes? If they are kept at enough distance away to prevent condensation on the scope, thermal currents over the tube, & drips on the optics, well, that just sounds freakin' A awesome!

Yeah, Joe's got great experience & wisdom, unfortunately only offset by his complete introversion. I seriously don't know where I'd be without him, & through him the rest of the gang. (sniff) I'm still in for the crash course, & I haven't liked learning anything as much as I've loved learning about astronomy, even as it takes over my life. The list of astro equipment & knowledge I'd today be without is MUCH longer than the list of what I would have gained through my own aimless puttering & wall bashing. He's the Pied Piper of Chicago Astronomy, I say!

Well then, sounds like a party in the works to me! I got a call from Orion yesterday, they said it should ship out today, shipping from California, so I'd guess I'll have it early next week.

It seems like a nice place, my wife wants to go after I showed her the reviews

Im in for a weekend of stargazing! That place looks awesome. The women can sit around drinking wine and discuss how they dont like our astronomy and we could get in some god dark skies. Where is it at on the Bortle scale?

I got a bunch of tailgate gear I'm bringing up there: 35K BTU propane heater, portable grill, handheld satellite radio, boom box, etc.

I was thinking drive up some clear sky Saturday, grill dinner Saturday night while viewing all night. I guess this place isn't too far away for a place to eat too, pretty cool decor, bar-food-ish kinda place -

Wake up late Sunday morning and drive back home.

The problem is I really don't know much about astronomy so you'd have to deal with my complete ignorance

Well if she likes wine she's going to get along just fine with my wife, so no worries. And seriously, we both don't have any idea what we're doing, although we're both very interested. My soon-to-be previous telescope I got at a garage sale for $10, I found the moon with it - IT'S AWESOME! We had fun with it all summer camping in Wisconsin.

Maybe you're wife can help us learn this stuff, my wife will gladly bring some wine. Many of the posts on this forum aren't really in a language I understand
