Scopes and music

Ravinia - August 5th 2011

Our friend Audrey - from the Chicago Astronomical Society, is organizing a star party at a Ravinia scheduled event - in association with the performance of the evening - highligted by classical Cello player Yo-yo-Ma.

Very cool.

The Adler Planetarium used to do this, but I don't know why not this year. So the C.A.S and other local area astro groups are working it. They will have 38 people & 27 scopes...very cool indeed.

For myself, it's a bit out of the way and I won't be attending...but it's open to any Chicago Astronomer who wishes to work the event before, during and after the concert.

Let me know if you are interested in participating....but she needs to know soon - like today.

How was your experience?

An issue, (I'm told), in the past was that Ravina visitors were more interested in the music, rush to get in and out, than telescopes. A passing curiosity on the way to something better.

my experience was a good one. That 23" dob probably fueled the astronomical fires for most people. the line for that scope was like waiting at great america for a coaster.

i would definitley be part of this event next time. your c11 would have been a hit. all the astronomers there were very friendly. i think the CA would do well at the ravinia.

Excellent.

The sharing of telescopes of all sizes with the public at a musical venue is an exciting event.

I like the pics you took, but that Dob resting on the stool was a potential disaster, especially having a kid stand on top of a cooler. I wouldn't have permitted it.

What's the story on the government surplus dob?

turns out the owner of that dob, guy in the hat, got that from some government auction. he then contracted a mirror guy to recoat the primary. he didnt say how much he got it for but it sounded like quite a deal.

the dob on the stool was pretty funny. i was waiting for it to topple over.

yoyo was pretty good as well. i just couldnt take the guys walking around scolding people that were talking. i understand what type of concert it was, but lawn seats are lawn seats.

What I hear is that the government setup a secret network of giant dobs manned by amateur astronomers to locate planet x. These scopes were funded by a grant from the Chubb Foundation and viewers like you.

Because they simply couldn't come out and ask established professional astronomers, the need to keep things on the down low were necessary.

Just like the UFO coverups, the amateur guys were allowed to post their radical findings on websites around the world. Thus creating the "Conspiracy Nut" Planet X hype that is now all around the world.

With the double cross now in play the government was able to build their fleet of black triangular ships that run on zero point energy.

When Nibiru gets close and the Annunaki begin staging their assault on our world, the government and billionaires will simply wormhole their way to Gliese 581.

Meanwhile back at the ranch.... The amateur guys will set their telrads on the ever approaching fleet of alien overlords approaching.

I also noticed that as soon as I posted this your tracker showed a computer from Meerle, Antwerpen online. Meerle is a known Echelon satellite site that filters web traffic from forums and weblogs.



This is the site photo snapped and uploaded by a french reporter back in 02'. Her small single engine piper plane mysteriously vanished over the bermuda triangle later that year.



You should be on the lookout for any suspicious black helicopters and black escalades that you may be following you.

It was cloudy out here Friday. Glad to see it was a success. With several area groups involved, I think there was some behind the scenes bickering between them (there were substantial grant dollars at stake). It's nice to see that at least from the public perspective, it went smoothly.

And why did I never think to put my Dob on a stool?!?

Bickering? That's just dumb. This stuff is supposed to be fun. This group needs some grant money! We need our own government funded observatory with outreach facilities! I'll write Obama today
