At the last CA/CPD observation, Heather from the parks department mentioned that the CPD Nature Oasis has a Facebook page, so I checked it out. I saw a bird watching event next Saturday morning, June 11, and I think I'm going to register for it.

Historically, I have not been thrilled with our feathered friends (and I was reminded why on my windshield this morning), but one of my ex-girlfriends, a nature freak, changed my mind. In the spring of 2007, Heather put up a bird feeder near our porch. I was out of work waiting knee surgery at the time, and spent quite a few mornings watching her cat, Freedom, sit in the window watching the birds. I started watching them too.
I'm no avid birder, but I do have binoculars and a field guide, but haven't put the two together yet. I'm hoping to get a primer Saturday, and can take that experience out to the Indiana Dunes, or really any local park.
Anybody else interested?
Side note:
The birds that keep building their nests in Conway Observatory's roof rails, however, are to be viewed as rats with wings, and it shouldn't bother my conscience at all if a little birdie falls out dead when I'm opening the roof.
