Hey everyone...

Although I haven't had a First light with my scope yet I figured I am probably lacking in the eyepiece dept. My scope has a focal length of 1250 and a ratio of f/4.92. What I would like to do is be able to have a good wide field view of DSO's. Unfortunately it is hard to decide which to buy online without trying them out.

I am looking at a couple eyepieces

An Ebay Astrobuffet 30mm 80 degree 2" ULTRAWIDE Telescope Eyepiece

If I managed to make it back to Chicago with the Meade Super Plössl in my possession, I will have it out tomorrow night. If I left it in Austin, well, I can't offer an opinion yet since it has't had first light either. Really looking forward to Beehive and Pleiades with it. And Luna.

If I do have it, you are more than welcome to give it a gander.

No knowledge on the other one, though.

Yeah a bit on the pricey side! Out of my budget, nice to look though.

Forgot to mention that my Super Plössl still lives in Austin. Would have been great to turn it on the Beehive and see what we could see. I'll bring it back next time I go down. Sorry.

Hey Rich,

Before you go purchase a wide field eyepiece, you will need to consider your tolerance of coma.
Your scope, due to fast focal ratio, will produce comet-like stars along the perimeter.
Try observing the double cluster; you will notice the stars toward center pinpoint versus the perimeter.
You might want to consider a coma corrector.
Also, your secondary mirror will create a blind spot on wide views. You'll see this spot more pronounced during daytime views.
