As many of you know, Audrey Fischer has been a tireless promoter of dark skies. Next Tuesday she will be pitching a resolution to reduce light pollution to the Porter County (Indiana) Commissioners. I will be present at the meeting to support Audrey, along with Hillary, and hopefully other professional and amateur astronomers from Northwest Indiana. The goal is to make the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and State Park area free from light pollution.

If anyone is free Tuesday night, October 5 at 6 PM, please join us at the Commissioners meeting, especially any residents of Porter County. We probably won't be allowed to speak at the meeting, but I think a strong show of support can only help our cause. I'm also thinking of trying to invite the Commissioners and other attendees to an informal star party afterward in downtown Valparaiso, somewhere near the county administration building.

This is very cool of Audrey, not only creating awareness of light pollution in Chicago, but advocating for darker skies in the region.

The whole country could use more like her.

Let us know the highlights of the meeting...maybe even take some pics of the proceedings.

Perhaps Chicago's next Mayor will be more sympathetic.

Better hope Rahm isn't the next mayor. His reputation is that he has no sympathy at all.

I'm surprised Mayor Daley never got on board. He's done a good job of greening the city (or at least creating the public perception that he has).
