Hey-I'm a little north of Chicago (North Shore) and I know nothing about astronomy, but I caught some of Saturday's meteor shower. That was the most amazing thing I have ever seen! Last night, my brother was outside and saw what I guess was a meteor fragment (?) that changed color from red to blue and lit up the sky similar to lightning. I was wondering if you are able to predict when another shower will be visible (to the naked eye). I would love to see it again!!! Let me know. Thanks much!

The meteors you saw recently was from the Great Perseid Shower. You can read my account under the "Meteor, Comets and other Debris" board of this forum, if you haven't already. It was the best I ever have seen from the big city!

It certainly was a good display for us in the Chicago area.. for meteor showers here usually are diminished in intensity by the overpowering light pollution and more often...it's cloudy. But it's amazing what can be still be observed regardless of the unwelcomed intrusion of streetlighting.

The next major meteor shower will be in November called "The Leonids". They are a good one to bundle up for and watch. Last years display was ok and average. There will be more on this event as the date approaches here on the forum and in the Chicago Astronomer Newsletters.
