Hello folks I been to a couple of forums today and I have seen close to 7 posts on a mystery star said to be low above the horizon at around dusk and for a couple of hours after. In all accounts this star was seen in the NE sky. I think it might be Mu Cephei but i am not sure, anybody care to enlighten me. Thanks.

I normally check out six astronomical message boards and have seen no mention of such a thing. What is meant by a “mystery” star? Is it bright? Does it maintain its position relative to other stars as the evening progresses? Is it in a position where no stars appear on a star map? If it is truly bright and in the northeast during the evening, it is likely Capella in Auriga or possibly Aldebaran in Taurus. Mu Cephei is not very bright (fourth magnitude) and closer to due north in the evening at this time of year.
