Hi Guys,

Here is the next Star Party at Triton. Its Sat July 31 at 7:30 p.m. I hope you guys can make it again and this time stay longer. We have Saturn to check out closely now. Oh and cant for get I also have a public star party at the Schaumberg Nature Center on the 10th if you guys want to show up for it. the adress is 1111 E Schaumberg rd. starts at dusk.

I had a good time at the Last Triton star party, but it was only thru your hospitality, Becky that I did. Hopefully the skies will be clear and transparent.

I will certainly attempt to make the date on the 31st, but I'm not too sure about the 10th. Let's talk some more as the date approaches.

new excited amateur astronomer here. Are these star parties open to anyone? I hope so because I am hoping that star parties will help me increase my knowledge astronomically!

Hello Emptyknow,

Yes the Star Parties are open to everyone. All you have to do is just show up. I will keep everyone up to date on the close Star Parties that I know of in the area. If you need any info about any of themplease ask and I will get the info on them.

The Triton one should be good with me, as for the one on the 10th in Shaumburg, I won't know till that day. But if I can I'll make the effort.

Might be able to borrow a nice pair of binocs from someone at work, too.

The Triton Star Parties are at Triton College located in River Grove. At 7:30 p.m. there is a Sky Show inside the Planetarium then afterwards if the skies are clear we bring out the telescopes.

I hope you can make both of them. The Schaumberg one is small but fun. Usually only two scopes but the other gentelman who does it is very knowledgeable about Astronomy and can answer more questions then I can. Let me know if you can make it.

Well, after a couple of weeks in the digicam, I finally post these shots of the Triton Star party...

Bill and Becky target the moon

Becky and her husband set up their 10" cannon outside of the Triton College building, along with other scopes of various sizes and configurations. There were several people lining up to view the scopes, but the lines were longest at Becky's scope. The views thru the cannon were quite cool, as we observed the moon and Jupiter. I desired to target other objects, but the sky was murky and the mosquitos were fierce.

Becky allowed me to compare her light pollution filters, but as the sky was not the best for steady viewing, I settled on one of the stars in the summer triangle. The filters did indeed cut down on the ambient light in the eyepiece, but imparted a greenish hue to the object. Since I don't have light pollution filters, I was not prepared for the difference in color. I would like to spend more time examining more DSO's when we have time and skies are transparent and deep.

The 2" eyepieces were great, as the FOV was pretty wide and quite a sharp. Becky at the end of the session placed a Barlow along with a high powered eyepiece and we zoomed right on in the mountains of the lunar surface.

I will be there at the next Triton star party, but I think I'll decline the dome show and go straight for the observation.

I had a great time and recommend it to all. Bring bug spray!

I really wish I could have showed you more. We will have to have a private Star Party out here by me. The skies are better. Alittle darker and I have a better horizon. Maybe you and Nancy, Brian and his girlfriend and Bill and I can get together over here at the field across from the Highway. or maybe do a outing with NSA. You can all come as our guest. I hope next time the skies are better at Triton.
