Which date is correct? At the last Schaumburg gathering I thought the next agreed on date was four weeks from the last one, which would be July 23rd. Becky also indicated this in her last post on the parties. However, the CAS web site says the next Schaumburg gathering is July 30th. I'm just curious which is correct.

The Schaumburg party is at the Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road.

I'm going to try to make it but just found out I've got to work both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is an emergency lighting test in one of the federal building I work in, and Sunday I have to supervise some contractor who will be setting up some air monitoring equipment in another federal building....all in all, a weekend shot to you know where!

Thanks for the link. I'm on a new shift too. I have to get to sleep by about 9 pm, it's really bumming me out, I only have friday and saturday night for astronomy now, if it's clear.

You're welcome Tim. It looks like my Sunday trip downtown has been put off due to a shipping snafu....no calibration gas for our instrument so Schaumburg looks more promising as I do not have to get up to get downtown on Sunday!

Hi GUys

Im back from the Easter Seals Party. The party went as planned. Stan and his lovely Bride were with us. We had a full moon so we showed them Jupiter, a small showing of Venus (for the ones who were waiting for us) The Moon, The Double in The Big Dipper, About 20 people showed up. I was in bed from the time we got home till this morning. Still may end up in bed as this trip took alot out of me. I would like to thank Stan for coming. (stanpope) Before the showing Me, Bill, Cj, Stan, and Barb (his lovely Bride) enjoyed a lovely dinner. I hope you all had a good time. I really enjoyed meeting you both. We will have to have another star party soon under better conditions. (no moon)

My daughter and I went to the schaumburg star party last saturday the 23rd. I was looking forward to meeting you. There was a gentlemen there with what looked like about a 10" reflector that told me your husband was'nt feeling well. Hope he is feeling better now. The man was just packing up, about 9:30 because of the mostly cloudy sky so we did'nt get a chance to look through his scope. There was another man there with his young son. He had a 105mm meade cass and he stuck around for a while and showed me and my daughter and the couple that were there a few things. Very nice of him considering the not very good conditions and his son wanting to get going. We looked at Albireo, M7, M20, and tried to split Arcturus but due to the seeing conditions we could'nt. I did'nt realize that Arcturus was a double so next time I'm out I'll take a look.
The nature center is a nice area for observing and only about 20 min away. See you next time.

That would be me with the Meade ETX105. Glad you were able to hang around a bit. Yeah, the conditions were tough but we were able to see a few things. Actually, the double I was trying to split at the end there was Antares, which is notiriously difficult due to its low altitude and huge difference in magnitudes between the two stars. Needless to say, we struck out.

It is always nice to get the chance to meet others fromt he forum though I was not aware you were a forum member when I was out there. Martyn and his fiancee Lori were the other couple there and Martyn is also a foruim member here, so really it was the Chicago Astromomers Schaumburg party at the end there. Now, the big question is where was Joe?? ;D

Just ribbing you a bit here Joe, it is a long haul out there from the city......

Sorry I couldnt make it. My Husband is doing better now. Its nice to know I was missed. If you want we can do something here near my house if you life close by. Im just off I90 near Judson Collage (just behind it actually). If you want to bring your scope you can. Ill help you with what you need. I have a few spots near me we can go to. Justy IM me and we'll go from there.

But, if the sky conditions are exceptionally clear and the company of good people are on hand....I'll be there.

The evening of the schuamburg night was questionable and I weighed the differences. And it was a no go.
I haven't met Tim yet, soon I would like tho.

Well it was nice meeting you all, John and Martin and Lori. Maybe we can all get together at the next Schaumburg party, I think it's in about 5 weeks. It's kind of tough on me with this new shift at work . I'll try my best but I need a couple weeks advance notice. So Becky if you could give me a heads up on the next date.

Hey I just had a good thought. My wifes uncle makes printed t- shirts. If somebody here is good with designing the chicago astronomer name and a cool DSO picture. he could make them for us for I guess about $20 each and he could mail them to each of us.

You and I think similar. When I first started The Chicago Astronomer, another member and I also thought of the T-shirt idea. But The site was too young and I wasn;t sure were I was taking it.

But now, it's quite popular and the T-shirt idea is a sound one. I will put out a formal notice on this very soon, but I think it's great that the membership is taking ownership.

Hey becky i went to the schaumburg star party and there was no one there i got there alittle after nine there was one car in the lot . i ran into a park ranger there and asked him if there was a star party going on he radioed some one esle and they said that there was no star party that night. so i left. i walked up the trail some what but did not know where i was going.

Hmm, there must have been some disconnect in the park ranger's info, as we started setting up about a quarter to nine. We were about an eighth of a mile or so down the service road, so we were pretty much out of sight. Also there are two trails from the nature center, and we set up down the one trail/service road that is off to the left of the main nature center building. Martyn and Lori as well as Tim and his daughter were there till about 10pm that evening. It's a shame the park rangers gave you some bad info as we had a nice time depsite the lousy skies.

I will always tell you when there is a star party at Schaumburg. Most of the park rangers dont know whats going on. We set up about a 1/4 mile back on the main road. My Husband wasnt feeling good thats why I wasnt there. I will find out the dates of the next ones and let you know. Bill and I did a star party the wed before in Bloomington and both of us were really out of it. My back was so soar that it took a good week for me to start feeling good again and Bill worked the night before and was up all night and didnt get any sleep during the day so we decided not to go. But normally we are there. We park our car back by the scopes as we can bring it to deliver the scope. But if you walk down the road on the left side of the building and keep walkingh stright towarsds the cabin you will run into us around the curve. Hopefully Ill see you at Triton and will have the cannon with us.

ok heres the scoop on the T-shirts. We can get the iron on kind and each shirt can be customized like with your favorite DSO or planet on a white Haynes t shirt for $12-15. Or we can get a screen printing job done on a black cotton polyester shirt but they all have to be the same with a minimum of 12 shirts for $20-25 each.

I'm thinking Chicago Astronomer across the chest in 2" white block letters and the web site address under that and one of the pictures you took of the moon. If we get enough interest and a final design I'll get a quote from jim. Maybe we could all send a check or money order to you and you could send in the payment with the order. And for about $3 I think they can mail the shirts to each member.

Thanks Jglover ill remember that for next time i started down the left side of the trail but wasnt sure as to how far down every body was and there was only one car in the parking lot a green saturn.
