Just FYI, these are some area events going on -
May 6,7,8 The Calumet Astronomical Society has reserved the group campground at Jim Edgar Panther Creek Fish & Wildlife area west of Springfield, IL for a dark skies observing weekend. The Society is picking up the tab for your camping and all interested folks are invited to attend. I know of people from at least six different astronomy clubs that are planning to attend.
May 14 The Chicago Astronomical Society is throwing a star party / picnic at Vana's Farm west of Kankakee, IL. Good food, good observing. See www.chicagoastro.org for details & registration information. There will be door prizes and a raffle - the following items will be given away: Meade Series 5000 14mm UWA & 26mm Super Plossl eyepieces, Meade series 4000QX 26mm 2" eyepiece, 15x70 Celestron Skymaster Binoculars, and several other prizes. Winner must be present!
June 10 & 11 Calumet astronomical Society is having a Public Outing at Indiana Dunes State Park near Chesterton, IN. Member telescopes will be present for public viewing, including possibly the historic 22" F/7 "LongEye" telescope built by John Dobson. There is a parking fee at the gate of the park, the program is free.
