Okay, okay, I know....there is already the star party planned for Oct. 9th.....but I ran accross this and thought I would throw it up here....

...I personally have never been on a cruise in my life. While looking up info on the H.M.S. Bounty, that big wooden ship docked at Navy Pier for the fall I plan on visiting this week, I noticed the cruise ship specials they offer.

Normally, I could care less about spending money to be in the company of others who have more money than I do, but one thing caught my eye:

Boarding time: 12:00am
Cruise time: 12:30pm - 1:45am
$26 per person

I think I am going to do it, just for the sake of doing it. No use in bringing a telescope that won't stay still, but to stay up late on the lake and stare at the sky for a few hours, it sounds like fun. It is also the last one I noticed that any of the cruiselines had on schedule for the season.

Figured I would throw this here and see if anyone else was interested. I am throwing a concert/party on Oct. 2nd, and then I discovered Rush Limbaugh was going to be in town and I can't go to see him because of the party arrangements I already made . So in my annoyment, I found this midnight cruise thing instead. Lemmie know what you guys think of it, or if any of you guys have done the cruise thing before, if they are worth it or not. Thanks.

I once was a guest during the Democratic National Convention here in Chicago as an alternate delegate, in where I was treated to a great mass of activities.

One was a cruise on Lake Michigan during the night that lasted a couple of hours. It was indeed a nice time, although a rather cool night. Binoculars would have been nice to catch darker skies, but the ship really didn't go that far out away from the lights.

It would be a great idea to have an astronomer island right smack in the middle of Lake Michigan under very dark skies, just for the purpose of astronomy with a 40" telescope.

Perhaps one day.

I haven't been on a night time cruise in the Windy City, but I took a daytime cruise a few years back.
Had a great time.
But make you keep an eye peeled for any Dave Matthews Band buses.
