This should be a good year for the annual Perseid meteor shower. The greatest frequency will come between local midnight and dawn on Friday morning; fortunately the Moon will have set. See the link:

Unfortunately the rain and clouds are going to ruin it for me (and many others). I've the "training" for it with morning observing sessions during the passed two weeks. Now, it's going to be a rain-out.

It certainly looks bleak for clear skies, and it hampers the Lake Geneva trip we some of us have planned.

Perhaps a small break in cloud cover will permit short peeks...
