Mercury has begun an apparition as a morning star following its inferior conjunction between Earth and Sun on 2007 OCT 23. It should reach its greatest western elongation of 19.0° on NOV 08 before descending to superior conjunction behind the Sun on DEC 17. This should present a far better opportunity for northern hemisphere observers than the planet’s recent evening apparition. We got a bunch-o-planets crowding our eastern morning skies now.

Mars, Saturn, Venus and now Mercury!

Not many people have seen Mercury, and even tho it's quite small in the telescope, one can still descern crescent phases like Venus and the Moon.

It's a virtual astronomers orgy now...and getting better.
