Well, I'm not one for late nights, since I have to get up at 6am to go to work, but last night was not a night to pass up. I always look out the window before I go to bed, and last night when I looked, I expected it to be cloudy, like it was all day. But, it was clear. I went to the front door and looked out, clear as a bell. So, I went outside and looked at the Moon. Once I saw it I remembered that Mars was going to be sitting next to it. So, I got the camera tripod out and shot some pics of the gathering. But, after looking at the pics today on the computer, I found that they didn't look like much. The Moon was too bright in some, and in others, the Moon looked okay, but Mars just looked like a star next to it. So, at least I saw it visually. But, when I went farther down the sodewalk, I saw that the sky was pretty darned perfect, and there was a boatload of stars. So, I pushed the SCT out, and took the SN6 out.
My main goal was shooting M42, and it was a good enough night that I stayed out until midnight. M42 looked awesome, and I tried a whole slew of different camera settings to capture it. I shot almost every shot at 30 seconds, and tried different light settings amd ISO settings. Some of the shots came out really, really, nice. While the camera was shooting, I looked at the Moon/Mars group through the SN6. With the 30mm Owl, and the 40mm Paragon, they both fit very nicely in the fov.
But, on to the pics. The first three were with the 12" SCT, Fuji S6000fd, and Owl 20mm eyepiece. All three at 30 seconds, with the first set to Fluorescent #3 at ISO400, the second at Fluorescent #2 at ISO200, and the third on Fluorescnet #3 at ISO200.
These 4 were at ISO200, with the light settings at Fluorescent #3, #2, #1, and the Atuo light setting, respectively.
And one more, at ISO800, 20 seconds at Fluorescent #3
All of these shots were resized so I wouldn't kill the site, or blow up Joe's server.
Boy, I love astronomy!!!
