After a nice solar observing session at
Adler, fellow C.A Arvind and I decided to come back to the South Balcony.

We brought out the big guns from the scope room: 8in and 10in SCTs, I brought along my new toy, 8in Dall-Kirkham cassegrain.

With steady skies, minor light pollution, and no lakeshore winds, I was lucky to get a snapshot of the Jewel.

No stacking. One shot with low res digital camera. A little over 300x.



I forgot to take a picture of the beautiful Cauchy domes on the moon. Oh well.

It was a nice dark night for telecopes and looking up. But...you youngens seem to tolerate the cold better. I enjoy your and Arvind's Blueberry messages in real time...makes me smile...

I took the liberty to mess around with your great Saturn image you took on Saturday night. With the image manipulation, some different characteristics come out, and I think just for a quick digital snap at the eyepiece, they are damned good.

You guys not only caught banding and polar region contrasts, but a spoke in the rings!

Image 11 shows the spike/spoke quite well.

Thanks Bill for sharing with us, and we all gotta get out on that terrace and do one massive telescope comparison shoot-out with ALL the telescopes.
