I seldom use the ISO800 setting on my camera, because the pictures usually come out too noisy and bright. After playing around with shooting astro pics with the different light settings on the camera, I figured I try ISO800. One of the results is this shot of M42, which is a stack of 34 jpegs. I shot five pics in continuous mode with each of the seven light settings; Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Fluorescent 1, Fluorescent 2, Fluorescent 3, and Tungsten (which is incandescent, regular light bulb). I then stacked the 35 pics, Registax used 34 of them, and came up with this shot.
The shots were taken with the Fuji S5000 DSLR, a 25mm eyepiece, the Meade AR6, at ISO800, with the camera zoomed in about 6 times optical. Five, 2 second continuous shots at each of the seven light settings.
I had two pairs of sweatpants on, two shirts, a hoody, my nice and comfy warm Cloudy Nights hat, work shoes, a runny nose, and frozen hands. I was on the corner of the sidewalk, with the garage door open and 97.1 playing on the radio. Both my van and the boss's Escape are in the driveway, and the munchkin is watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the original of course). (The previous details are for Joe's benefit, once again the smartass in me coming out)
The moon was a good sight visually, but my target tonight was M42, so I didn't take any shots of the moon.
It was windy, but the Meade LXD75 mount barely vibrated at all, even with the added weight of the AT80 and the extra counterweight. I love this setup!!
