Meade 2" 26mm QX Wide Angle Eyepiece Cleaning
16 August 2024
At my last Public Observation session, I popped in this eyepiece for a closer FOV of the Waxing Moon, intending to bring in details on the terminator thru the C11...but the glass had gunk on it and it was time for a deep cleaning. This 2 inch eyepiece was donated to the Chicago Astronomer.
I had some time to take the eyepiece apart for examination...
This Multi-element eyepiece was easy to take apart and the lock ring was loose anyway, so it was time. Easy to stack in proper order.
Some details on the eyepiece first:
Meade 07260 Overview

There's lots of features here found in much more expensive eyepieces, such as the fully multicoated optics and the blackened lens edges to both transmit lots of light and eat up internal reflections. It accepts Meade's collection of 2.00" threaded astronomy filters to enhance your viewing experience.
-5-Element design with fully multicoated optics
-Supreme resolution and contrast
-Peel-down rubber eyecup

About $150 retail, but hard to get now, especially with the Orion/Meade bankruptcy situation.
Laid out in proper sequence, with the spacer rings...and marked on all the blackened edges an arrow for "UP". All it needed was breathe, air bulb and cotton balls to clean. No need for solvent or liquid cleaners.
Cleaned, polished & lubed... ready for the next session...
