Join the Chicago Astronomer crew at Portage Park

We return to Portage Park this Friday evening and meet our legions of sky loving fans on Chicago's Northside.

We always have a great time at Portage, as our friends bring out their telescopes and curiosity...chatting all things Astronomical.

We will have a great night of lunar observations, exploring the cratered lunar surface through high powered magnificent telescopes.  It's a night before the "Lunar X"  crater apparition and the rare "Spica/Moon Occultation on Saturday, 13 July at about 10:10 pm Chicago time, but we will prep our fans who have telescopes or binoculars for the event...

A wonderful Friday evening at Portage Park

The Chicago Astronomer is always anticipated and welcomed here at Portage park with our fans coming out with their telescopes and sharing views of the Moon. Our visitors started to arrive and were eager to ask questions and peer through our scopes, even before we were ready and setting up.

The skies were clear and the temps warm for time under urban skies with our friends...

 

A great many number of telescope owners brought their instruments to our event, seeking guidance and instruction. I circulated around the observation site after setting up the 152mm Refractor and Maria took over sharing views through the scope and engaging while I was quite busy visiting the scopes and welcoming our fans...

Explaining about eyepieces, setting up the mount, aligning the finders/red dots and explaining the best use of their scopes occupied practically all my time at Portage, making new friends and fans...many of which will join us at our future Chicago Astronomer public observation events. 

 

What a fun evening with our friends under Chicago skies...

A Big shout out to Daniel, who lugged his cool 12" Meade Fork scope for great views of the Moon and to Chicago Astronomers Tom and Maria...making this astro engagement quite the event to be at on a Friday evening.

Onward to the 606 Trail next Friday for more astro fun.....
