Monthly appearance of the Chicago Astronomer crew at the 606 Trail
Friday 21 June 2024
Friday 21 June 2024
The weather was great for this June session at the 606 to meet our fans and meet new sky lovers.
Chad brought his scope to get some advice on using it, an Astrograph reflector, but it just would not come to focus, unless the eyepiece was pulled out way beyond the focuser. I suspected that this was an imaging scope and with some on the spot research, it was confirmed. I did not have the chance to pop in my DSLR to test it out, but we can get Chad's scope working as a visual & imaging instrument.
Patty also stopped by with her 4.5" reflector some some assistance...
I instructed her on: the Red Dot finder adjustment, Balancing the tube, adjusting the latitude on the mount, usage of eyepieces and finding targets. Happy now, I presented Patty with a Chicago Astronomer sticker for her scope.
We had a good size gathering, including now young Rueben, who has become a regular with us and mastering his Alt/Az reflector scope.
Rueben also gets a Chicago Astronomer sticker for his scope and we anticipate his enthusiasm for Astronomy for a long time.
Also becoming a regular at Chicago Astronomer events is young Astronomer Ruhaan and his Dad Vivek...
A surprise visit from Wendy, who presented me her cool Lunar wall calendar several months ago...
We like both the lighter and mysterious darker photos....
Chicago Astronomers Tom & Brian were on hand to skillfully guide our visitors across the skies and assist in instructing those who brought their telescopes...
Our time at the trail went by much too fast, as we enjoyed interacting with our friends and discussing all thing space...
Shout out to Chicago Astronomer Maria for the site set-up and break down on this warm sticky evening...
Onward to our next appearance at Portage Park on 12 July. Consult out Chicago Astronomer schedule here: chicagoastronomer.com/schedule/
