ASM Astronomy Students practice telescope operation

As we enter our last couple of weeks of this Spring Astronomy term, my astro teens practice using telescopes in preparation for their tests next week. These table top scopes are great as an entry instrument for the beginning Astronomer. New to our complement of classroom optics is a 4.5" reflector that one of my Chicago Astronomer fans donated for my students, one in particular took to it right away and mastered the assembly and usage right away, teaching her classmates on how to use it.
We prepped our gear and walked over to Millenium Park in downtown Chicago and set-up along this wall to place the scopes without scrunching down....
As my students get comfortable with their scopes, I questioned them on the parts of the instrument, what eyepieces to use and type of mounts....my crew is ready...
I think my shy student here (above) Daisy is just great in learning this new scope, teaching others. The scope provide solid sharp views and a great addition to my Astro classroom to learn on and master.
Although we did not have any celestial targets to view, the crew enjoyed practicing on terrestrial objects and chasing aircraft, learning the magnifications and Fields of View of different eyepieces.
