After School Matters has a standing partnership with the Art Institute, providing access for ASM teen participants to enjoy the art and experience of a world class museum. Our visit was to find art items associated with Space and Astronomy, be it stars, constellations, rockets or any other related tie-in. My astro students gathered on a Sunday and started right away in identifying objects , taking a photo and jotting down pertinent info....
We took the time to discuss the art pieces among ourselves and the association, which could be interpretative...
I like to think that this classic piece are Astronomers after a long night of telescopic observation....
My Program Assistant organized the crew into three teams and team leaders, always keeping track and count of our group...
This is a great find on a British Naval Captain and his telescope...
and we continue to discover more space related art...
This blue bowl was almost passed up, which had stars, comets and other celestial artifacts painted on...
A whole section on Mesoamerican art, as my own ancestors were great Astronomers...
My own personal contribution to the search was this 3-D piece, which reminded me of a Klien bottle/Tesseract/Mobius Strip
...with a unintentional ghostly image of me....
A bit of a rest...
In the meantime, these miniatures gain a different perspective using my 18mm Fisheye lens...(each one can be enlarged)
This one, I inadvertently caught myself in the tiny mirror..
Back to our exploration and discovery...
Always take the time for a photo Op...
Lunch Break...
Back to our search...
And with the Institute soon to close, we prepare to leave and conclude our field trip...
My Program Assistant take a final head count...and we are all accounted for...
We thank our friends at the Art Institute of Chicago for a wonderful visit and accommodating my ASM Space & Astronomy teens...
We will discuss our findings in our next astro class with our crew.
