"No Go" for the Chicago Astronomer Partial Solar Eclipse at the 606 Trail

Sorry kids...the much anticipated and prepared for Partial Solar Eclipse for Saturday is cancelled due to Fall storms with predicted high winds and all day showers.  Telescopes and rain do not go well together.  I had planned at least lectures in lieu of observations, but the weather will not permit outside gatherings.

Just look at that mess for the Midwest this weekend.

We are truly disappointed in missing the opportunity to share this celestial event with our Chicago Astronomer fans, but we have several  public observation events coming up for you to join, check our schedule on upcoming events...

Unfortunately, the weather gods are expected to be equally cruel tomorrow above my out-of-state home. Although partial solar eclipses are not rare. Tomorrow's eclipse will be annular in a swath out west. But they are overly hyped, since each one is essentially a peculiar type of partial eclipse. What's really breathtaking is a total solar eclipse. The next one will occur on 2024 APR 08. Chicagolanders can head to Indianapolis for that one.

"Cancel" Status still in effect for the Chicago Astronomer Solar Eclipse event

All good Astronomers consult various weather models and forecasts for upcoming observation sessions and I check several trusted sites....

And they all call for a rained out/heavy cloud cover day for the Eclipse...



Not a one is calling for a break in the clouds and at least a short window of opportunity to catch some of the event...






I was at the ready with gear loaded and if we had any chance of a viewing, to head out to the 606 Trail and set up scopes.

But alas...not to be.

I will monitor the skies and if anything, grab some images from my backyard to share.

The Sun and Moon actually appeared here. This is my crude attempt at a pinhole camera image at maximum partial eclipse.
