Adler astronomer emeritus Dr. Eric Carlson gave a presentation on 25 Sept 2005 at Mayfair Presbyterian Church entitled "New Views of the Universe." It was thoroughly enlightening and enjoyable. Dr. Carlson concluded his talk by quoting a poem by J. Sig Paulson:
This poem is found in Paulson's book titled "To Humanity With Love" and is on page 94 or 96. Incidentally, the author puts the second and third lines in reverse order, but Dr. Carlson has always preferred to render it in the above order because it seems more naturally sequential to move from the effort to conquer, then to capture, then to understand.
