Let’s end daylight saving time in Illinois. The semiannual artificial inducement of jet lag is unwelcome. It's especially unwelcome to the astronomy community which must wait an extra hour for nightly observations.
However, I would not support Representative Mitchell’s bill that would make daylight saving time permanent, unless it’s amended to make standard time permanent. Post-8 AM sunrises during the fall and winter could lead to tragic deaths for commuters and school children. In any event, standard time is closer to sundial time, e.g. the Sun is highest near noon and equally in the sky during the morning and afternoon. Let’s stay more in tune with nature.
Before the annual implementation of daylight saving time, many businesses and schools would have special summer hours. If standard time were made permanent, I suppose that would be the case again, and should make happy those who still prefer some form of daylight saving time.
If you agree, then email your legislators and the governor.
