Two hours with the early morning Moon
12 February 2014
Here, you start to see some aberration with the optics. I think it's an alignment issue and will address it when it's warmer....
Catching moments of steadiness, good sharp imaging was achieved.
Jupiter was lost in my tree branches, (which take up much too much sky real estate), but managed to capture it and it's satellites...
A bit of trailing with the time exposure, but cool anyway.
At 2am it was time to call it and this this says it all for this session....
Lunar Ice.

It's been quite awhile since I spent some solo time with the Moon and this early morning provided a great opportunity to do some preliminary test shots with the Canon T5i, as I really have not had the chance to figure out configurations in imaging. The temps were in the single digits, I think it was 6 degrees, but really did not feel as cold as the zero and below temps we have been subjected to. My thermal space suit jacket keeps me toasty and I had it unzippered for this session. The feet and hands were the only cold areas.
At this time of the winter morning, 1:00 am...the city is quiet and still and the crunch of the snow beneath my boots was about the only sound near me. I did later connect to the Coast to Coast Am paranormal show and listened to stories.
My first shots were in Prime Focus using the C102mm refractor, (A great little scope). It was too cumbersome to load on the C11 and will save it for another session...
I was very pleased with the first shots. Clear, sharp and detailed. Using the on-board processing abilities of the camera, I pushed the sharpness & contrast, switching over to Tungsten White Balance setting and knocking down the saturation a bit....with good results...
Adding more glass in the light path, using a 2x Barlow...softens things up a bit..
And, using the 40mm Maxview II 2" eyepiece with the barlow...
