Holiday Party
15 December 2012
The Chicago Astronomer crew got together for a holiday party. We all worked many hours this past year, bringing the cosmos down to the lovers of the sky - attending to thousands and bringing smiles in abundance.
A small thank you for all your participation and promoting urban astronomy...
Astronomers share the company without scopes, star charts or lasers....but with food, drinks and snacks in abundance...
In the mix were, Venison sausage, aged cheeses, spinach/hummus dips, chocolates, cookies, meatballs, rices, various assortments of beers/cider, shrimp plate, desserts and White Castle sliders and more...all were gobbled up. It was all good and something for everyone.
Starting about 7:30 and wrapping up about 12:30 am, I had a very nice time with the astro crew, who have become my friends...
After a few beers, C.A.s John, Rich and I picked up our guitars and goofed around some...well John & I goofed while Rich actually played....
Speaking of Rich...
He brought along some righteous Chili...and in demand days afterwards!
And also, Rich did bring along "Dubhe" Beer. The Big Dipper's greatest.
Description: "Toasted, chocolaty dark malts align with an astronomical amount of hops. Special Ingredient: Hemp seeds - 9.2% Alcohol.
Named Utah's Centennial Star in 1996, Dubhe (pronounced Doo-bee) illuminates the front of the big dipper from 124 light years away. Dubhe, also known as Alpha Ursae Majoris, is a red giant that appears orange in color and has a mass 4x that of the sun." — Uinta Brewing Co.
And teamed up with a case of Lucky Buddah beer..
Keeping the bottles.
Very cool Rich, very cool....
Maria and I have a Geeky Christmas Tree this year, with various space/Star Trek themed Ornaments...
1 - Pike from "The Managerie" One beep for yes...two for no.
2 - Redstone rocket with Freedom 7 - Alan Shepard's craft
3 - Shuttle craft from the Enterprise
4 - The Enterprise- D
5 - Apollo 11 Astronaut
6 - Federation Communicator - TOS era
7 - Marvin the Martian
8 - Klingon War Bird
9 - Trouble with Tribbles falling on Capt. Kirk
10 - Romulan Space Vessel
11 - "City on the Edge of Forever" portal w/ Spock & Kirk
12 - Ferengi
13 - Klingon
Maria put this party together....
...with me in support crew status.
But, I was up since 5:00 am that morning...and not my peppy socialable self...still, had a nice time with friends and solid astronomers.

Chicago Astronomers…
Thank you for all your skill, talent and assistance with The Chicago Astronomer.
It’s a lot of work attending to the thousands who seek the opportunity in sharing the skies with Astronomers and telescopes…and you do it without complaint. Your unselfish participation, (in the heat and cold), makes our Star Parties and activities better organized, professional and constantly delivering the “WOW” factor to many. As our fan base continually grows, (like an exploding Sun), your dedication to astronomy reflects in the many smiling faces we see in our visitors every time we set-up a scope.
It’s only the beginning, as we have big plans to bring the stars down to the many – and with your continued involvement, we will succeed in building the Chicago Astronomer bigger, better - and the coolest urban astro team around.
Enclosed is a small token of appreciation – to be used after a long observation session and the need for caffeine and sugar strikes hard.
Thank you.
2013 will be a blast!
