New Impact on Jupiter captured on video

Taken from Texas early Monday morning, the impact site is about to swing around to our vantage sight again after 12:00 am. I'm going to see if I can view/image this new development on the king of planets now.

Jupiter Observation session

Reading the first reports that an impact had occurred on Jupiter, I had time to set-up the C11 outside of the garage and see for myself if I could capture the point of entry...

With a good easterly angle to catch Jupiter, I easily punch through the intense light pollution and center the planet. The tracking performed nicely and I attached the Astrobrella Jr and provide some nice nocturnal shade, blocking glare of the eyepiece.

Using the Bartinov mask that C.A. Rick crafted for me, focusing was much more comfortable...

Here centered on Capella, the three distinct bars equally situated on either side means I'm right on. (The C11 needs a slight tweaking on collimation...a job sometime soon after the cleaning and modding... )

I also utilized the Binoviewers for this session, as well as the 2" eyepieces...I must say it makes viewing a great pleasure and more detail can be coaxed out visually.

The GRS was now swinging into view, pale salmon colored and a good directional for the impact site...

I did not catch a readily apparent dark/white impact site, but from time to time - when the air steadied - I thought I could make out some sort of new surface feature along the N.E.B...

And here (above), Io slid behind Jupiter on my watch.

I popped on various 2" filters throughout this imaging session, with varying results...

Remarkably, the variable 2" polarizer delivered the best image of Jupiter, slightly skewed at around the 30 degree mark, contrast brought out the darker regions of the planet nicely without dimming the entire orb. I also have the sky pollution filter permanently attached to the right angle...so together made a nice filtered pairing...

According to the video and stills of the impact by Astronomers, this is where the site should be...

Inconclusive I say, but let's see if dark matter plumes up in the next day or so...or if the comet/asteroid met it's demise in the upper layers.

Also...

Since the Crescent Moon was making a great display, I took some time to enjoy...

I hung around the Sea of Humors for the remainder of the session...

...exploring Gassindi, Kepler, Aristarchus and the half sunken Prinz craterlet. With the Binoviews and a 2x in-line barlow - the 1.25" 25mm eyepieces converted to 12.5mm, a incredible experience hoving about the lunar surface.

We will attempt another session this next following early morning for the Jupiter impact, as the weather is remaining great for observation...
