How psyched was I to open my new issue of Astronomy Magazine to page 6 and see our very own tireless astro badass Audrey Fischer's name touted as the organizer for ALCon 2012? Almost as much as I was sad when I saw that it runs 7/4-7/7 when I will be in SC. But you, you should go.

Thank you for starting a thread I should have started quite awhile ago! The Midwest hasn't had an ALCon event for many years, I understand, so we need to make this one a highly attended event to give them a reason to come back.

My participation and/or attendance at ALCon2012 is totally dependent on the timing of my newest daughter's arrival. Given that caveat, I totally intend to participate somehow. A long while ago, there was discussion with Audrey about some of us setting up and attending scopes one or more of the days during ALCon2012. However, I haven't heard anymore about this in a while. That was most likely going to be the main way that I could participate and volunteer my time. Does anyone know the specifics of when and where with regards to us setting up scopes for the event?
I'm waiting for Audrey to give me the details for that so I can post it on the Alcon2012 website. I thought it was going to be during the Star BBQ in Lincolnshire but I'll have to verify. I'll send an email to her today.
Yes. Observing will be an important part of Alcon.
Observing dates as a group will happen at the: • 4th of July fireworks public outreach session at Marriott Lincolnshire. • July 6 StarBQue at Ravinia... observing and sketching by classical music. • July 7th banquet at Marriott Lincolnshire
Observing can also be done independently on other days.
