:)hi there,i came across your web site and found it very informative and interesting... I am just about to purchase a scope after getting back into the hobby. Y ou know you really never leave this great hobby, sometimes you drift in and out over the years but you know when you are hooked when your wife says "why are you always looking at the sky"...well it seems like im in it again, this time it is consuming every waking minute of my thoughts.. its a lot different than 20 years ago when there was no "smart phones" or "no computers".....i have a lot of catching up to do but im loving every minute of it!!!!
SORRY,i went ahead and did it...40 years between new telescopes is a long enough time,i pulled the trigger on a apertura 12' dob from optismart...some nice contact work from that company already, they called my house twice already to tell me sorry thier man who collimates the scopes was sick friday,he will do it the first thing tues morning..i said thank you very much for the contacting work...i should see it by the end of next week !!!!
Hi SaberOnyx! And welcome to the Chicago Astronomer, too! (I already welcomed you to the ODS site!) Congrats on your recent purchase. You will definitely enjoy the new scope. If you ever have any questions, everyone here on the CA boards is fantastic and happy to help. Thanks for checking in!
Well, I'm proud to consider myself a member of the Chicago Astronomer family. They are the group that really helped me get up and going hardcore in astronomy once I came back to the hobby. I just happen to be a CA member who has also branched out with his own website to try and do my own part to spread the love of the night skies and reach as many people as possible. I do not consider ODS a replacement for CA. It's more of a complimentary add-on. As Chicago Astronomer Joe has told me in the past, the universe is big enough for both our sites!
I got Joe's blessing before I started using my ODS avatar on the Chicago Astronomer forums and including a link to my site in my signature. Other than that, I try not to advertise my own site on Joe's.

Yeah... I'm hardcore CA. I'm just waiting for Joe to finalize the tattoo design.I was a web developer for years during my career in IT. Isky is simply an extension of myself. Joe and the crew welcomed me a while back and have held my hand along the way. This is the best group of Astronomers you'll meet.
I'm done with the tattoos for a while, 2 (and my only two) in the last year is enough, but are there stickers for my scope? Or at least a big sticker to go next to my NASA stickers on my camper shed/scope-home?
...cafe press has gotta have something we can use?!?!
There will be such Chicago Astronomer items Jim, but not in time for the Transit...
Heh! I have big ODS bumper stickers en route. Should be delivered tomorrow, just in time for the transit! Although, funds are tight. So I didn't order that many. Just enough to plaster my OTA. Along with the bumper stickers, I also have an ODS ball cap, an ODS t-shirt, and 100 ODS postcards I will be distributing in my neighborhood to advertise my public outreach sessions. Gotta get the word out, ya'know?! I want to get as many people in my neighborhood looking up at the night sky as possible this summer!
Sorry for mentioning ODS so many times, Joe. I'm just a little excited!
