Hi, everyone, I am an international student in Chicago, and still spending time on my hobby here , especially in last several months.
And I have some photos that I have taken till now, but it seems that only one photo could be uploaded in one thread .
And I also have a question, I want to find a dark and safe place to take astrophotography of deep sky objects, any recommendation?
And I am afriad of the safety in the midnight, or maybe park with hotel? I don't know much about it since I always took photos behind the house and the light pollution was astonished!

BTW, I plan to find a place to shoot "the tranit of venus" on 4th, June. That's another reason that I want to find a safe and dark place ;D

Hi Starfriend and welcome to the Chicago Astronomer.

The pics you uploaded are righteous and very good. Are these all through your 80mm and Canon camera? The Jupiter and galaxies ones are very cool.

In regards of dark sites....

After you participate with the crew, we can invite you to several out of Chicago dark sky locations that the group enjoys. Even in the city, despite the light pollution, we can still achieve decent deep sky imaging.

Share with us your techniques in astrophotography and hope to see you at our public star parties.

Yes, all the photos were taken by my 80mm APO and Canon DSLR.
And I would love to join in your activity when I have time ;D.

The Jupiter was taken by Canon 600D with its video function, and then used RegiStax to stack the frames; and the galaxy was also taken by 600D, but used DeepSkyStacker to stack raw photos, and I also used Astronomiks CLS-CCD light pollution filter to reduce light influence, and photoshop the picture.
Besides light pollution, I think the wind in Chicago is a big problem (since it's wind-city), which always influences “seeing" and long time exposure .

Great shots! Thanks for joining us and sharing. There are some dark(er) spots in the city and plenty of much darker spots in driving range. For example, I am also a member of Calumet Astronomical Society and we have a dark sight about 45 minutes from Chicago. But there are places in the city we have all found to get away. Anywhere near the lake, especially looking out over the water, is better. Join us at a CA gathering and let's talk. I would love to see your setup.

Atomant and Tom are both Chinese, so they would be great connections for you!

To post more than one picture on a thread, you have to use something like Flickr or Photobucket, copy the [IMG code for that photo, and paste it in here one by one. Laborious but it works.

Hello Starfriend, and welcome to Chicago and the United States. Hope you enjoy your stay.

As Joe stated, when you get the chance, come out to one of the public star parties, interact with the group, and if all goes well, you'll get invited to one of our darker locations, out of the public eye. It's a safety issue for everybody. Going out to the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night with a stranger isn't the best idea. I hope you understand, and I will private message you some more information.

To post more than one image in a post, you'll need to upload your images to a photo site like Flicker or Photobucket, then copy and paste the IMG codes into your post. It can be time consuming when you have a lot of images, but worth getting related stuff into a single post.
