As of this post, there are 82 days, 19 hours, and 5 minutes until the transit of Venus. Still don't have a solar filter?
Calumet Astronomical Society's April general meeting will be devoted to making Baader film solar filters. Materials will be provided for a 2" filter for a suggested donation of $5. There will be an instructional video during the meeting, and astronomers experienced at making Baader film solar filters will be there to help. This is the easiest and most cost effective way to prepare for the Venus transit, and years of of sunspot observing.
The CAS April general meeting will be held at Lake Central High School in St. John, Indiana Monday, April 9, at 7:30 PM. For more information check the CAS website. All are welcome.
Hey Paulie, Are there other sizes besides the 2", we can request to make for a fee?
I was thinking of getting a solar filter made for my 6in Newt or 7in Cass.
I'm not quite sure. I know we have a roll of Baader film already bought, and were thinking about getting another. If we get the extra roll, it shouldn't be a problem. I'm going to make my 6" full aperture filter that night, but I'm going to use my own Baader film. I will try to find an answer and post when I find out.
