Oddly enough, I was looking for a cabin to stay at around Lake Geneva to take the telescope to when I bumped into an image that lead me to Yerkes photos... blah blah blah.. I found this place --

Then I come to this forum and see there's a whole section to this Yerkes place - where have I been?!?!

So are there any good places to crash around Yerkes where I can bring my own? ;D

I don't know about the housing situation in Lake Geneva, but we stayed in a hotel for a conference when I visited Yerkes.

The skies are dramatically darker than Chicago skies and all I had were 10x50 binoculars at the time, but enjoyed scanning with them.

You'll enjoy your time there...even better in a cabin.

There are some timeshare places you can rent out for a pretty good price up there. Check out www.findingtravelbargains.com Amy is always posting about renting timeshares and getting the best deals. If you email her, she could probably find you a great bargain.

I did see some places (timeshare, condo, etc) but they seemed pretty big (pricey) and located in the downtown area of Lake Geneva. It's just me and my wife, but I'd like a nice bed and a heater in the winter, and a place to set up the telescope at night after dinner - cheap is great, clean with nice proprietors is ideal.

We camp almost every weekend in the summer about 3.5 hours north, and I've got a mad case of cabin fever right now until it opens again in April...

Too bad Yerkes isn't open this weekend, the weather looks like it's going to be perfect, I'll figure out somewhere to go ;D
