It was 39 years ago today that Jack Schmitt and Gene Cernan took humanity's last steps on the Moon (of the Apollo era). I really hope I'm still around the next time somebody puts fresh boot prints on another world.

Very cool. would love to follow the next missions in my lifetime.

I read his book "Last man on the Moon", recently and brought insight to the mission.

It was more of a lead-in to the mission than of the actual landing experience.

NASA's latest future plans is to orbit a space station around the Moon at the Lagrange point.

I found it to be a great book. Along with Andrew Chaikin's A Man on the Moon and Gene Kranz's Failure is Not an Option, you'll have a real good insight into the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo eras of space flight. I'm sure there are other great books about that era (Jay Barbree's Live From Cape Canaveral is one I want to get), but these three are the ones I've read so far.
