NASA had several missions planned after the Apollo 17 mission, but interest had waned and the American public embraced disco instead. The Shuttle was then pushed and for the next 30 years, struck in low Earth orbit.
But, now is this fictional film about a secret mission to the Moon, American astronauts discover that the Russians are there and creepy things are happening...
Officially, Apollo 17, launched December 17th, 1972 was the last manned mission to the moon. But a year later, in December of 1973, two American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense. What you are about to see is the actual footage which the astronauts captured on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it's the real reason we've never gone back to the moon.
From the previews, it looks very hokey and "Blare Witch" like. Akin to these fake "reality" flicks that are popular with the slow kids. But, I'm interested in seeing this for the space angle and see what they do and how faithful they are to the science, proper suits, crafts, nomenclature etc....
(Funny, we never went back...or were we banished?)
This would be a nice group Chicago Astronomer outing and dinner afterwards when it comes out.
Think about it.
