With uncertain schedules, I cannot commit on that date and locale...most likely excluding me from the shoot.

We are filming Astronomer scene in Busse Forest south , cove no 23 on 21st sept 2011 from 1 PM to 5 PM .

Ugh. The schedule constantly changing is making it difficult. I had gotten the okay to leave work at 3pm on Wednesday so I can be there for the 4-6pm shoot (previous schedule). I'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out if work will be kind enough to let me take a half-day on short notice. I'll let you all know tomorrow.

If Chicago Astronomers are unable to commit to the new schedule, the movie producer has asked me to help find performers outside of this message board. It’s a shame that the Bears game last week interfered with the original plan for a Sunday morning shoot, but complications like that will arise in an involved project. The producer has tried his best to rework the schedule amid all the constraints he faces. Unfortunately having to now shoot the meteor scene near Elk Grove Village on a weekday has created difficulties for those who had previously volunteered.

I'd like to, but I think I'm going to have to pass on this. I'm technically available at that time, but I would have to go with little or no sleep. The payoff of being in a movie just isn't worth it to me. I'd rather find my fame as an astronomer discovering the asteroid that wipes us all out.

Due to the short time left I suggest that anyone who definitely can make it for the shoot should contact the director Satya Kharkar directly at [e-mail] . If Chicago Astronomers do not reply ASAP, replacements must be found quickly.

I will not be able to make it for the new shooting schedule. I really wish I could, but I have no more time-off available. I was just going to work through my lunch hour a couple days this week to make up for leaving two hours early on Wednesday, but two hours is the most we're allowed to make up that way. I'd have to take off a half day to make the new shooting schedule, and I just don't have the available time.

Whoever is able to make it, I hope you have a great time. I'll look forward to your film debut!

Agents will just get you into trouble, Joe, just as Olin Kreutz' agent did for him. Yours would have probably gotten you to pay more for the right to appear in the movie than the producer requested. More lines just allow more chances for an aspiring actor to appear inept. My brother performed flawlessly on Saturday during a one-minute shoot in which he had no lines. He rose from his seat and approached another actor exactly as the director requested. His future grandchildren will have no reason to feel embarrassed when they view the DVD.

The last I heard from the director was Tuesday evening when he said that two people responded to my mass e-mailing and would be coming on Wednesday. They were amateur astronomers and would be bringing telescopes. They were probably from one of the local astronomy clubs. You may have missed your big break, Rob, but t least you'll get to admire their performances when you view them at a theater or from a DVD.

Curt, I've come to grips with the loss of my big opportunity. I look forward to seeing my stand-in counterparts on the big screen. Of course, I will probably become very upset if it turns out that "Coin Toss" was actually a cover for secretly shooting scenes for the new Superman movie!!!

Well it’s been about six months since my scene and the meteor scene were shot for the film Coin Toss. One of those who replaced the Chicago Astronomers was Gomer, an astronomy instructor at Triton College and active global warming denier.

EDIT: For some odd reason the software here insists on changing the true name of the instructor mentioned in the previous sentence to simply Gomer.

The film is still being edited, so I have not seen the finished product. I’m not familiar with much beyond my scene as the lawyer for the protagonist. The producer-director has invited the cast and crew to a private screening on June 2. Our comments could result in re-edits. Two of my brothers had small parts. I already mentioned that Mark played a mourner; Kent portrayed the owner-waiter of a restaurant. Below is a photo I took of Kent during his scene.

So Gomer sees a green fireball somewhere around 8:15 PM CDST, Wednesday, April 11. I saw a very bright green fireball the same night, off to the northwest. Normally I note the time right away, but I was so captivated that I forgot for a few minutes. When I remembered to check the time, it was 8:23 PM CDST. With a little bit of uncertainty in both observations, it seems possible that I saw the same fireball. Wow.

Congratulations on spotting the fireball, Paulie.

Meanwhile, I learned today that the meteor scene for the Coin Toss film has fallen to the cutting room floor. So it's just as well that the Chicago Astronomers could not participate. I imagine that Gomer is disappointed.

P.S. I actually wrote the man's real first and last names, and again the website's software changed that to simply Gomer.
